Cai Zhi Hua - Irene Cai

My English name is Irene Cai. My Chinese name is Cai Zhi Hua and I was named by my father. It means 'keep Chinese spirit forever.'

My writing is about my life and feelings as a common Chinese girl. If you come here often you will know more about China.

Thank you and enjoy yourselves!

My English Teacher

I was working in a factory as an office clerk at Tang Xia Town, Dong Guan City, Guang Dong province in 2004. I attended an English training centre there.

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening I had an English class. I met my English teacher, Rawle Austin, in October of that year.

Rawle Austin is now not only my English teacher, he is also my good friend. He comes from London.

He taught us English for three months. The first time I met him in the English class he looked a little nervous.

Some students asked him many difficult questions. Including some very personal questions.

I didn’t agree with the way that they did it. In my mind, those were very impolite actions and I think they wouldn’t like to answer such questions themselves.

He told us if we have some questions after the class, we can ask him then or email him. After the class, some students talked with him for a long time.

Everyday in English class he was the busiest person.

Usually, he started the class at 7pm and ended at 9:30 pm. But if some students asked some questions, then he would have to stay an hour or longer.

He was very patient as a teacher.

Normally, after English classes most of the other teachers usually went back to their home and had a good rest.

They disliked staying longer in the class.

Rawle was not same as them, he was very happy to help us. Even if his lung was not as good as us.

In those days I spent my happiest time in my life. He gave us much encouragement.

That is a very different way of teaching compared with Chinese teachers.

And this way is much welcomed by Chinese students.

We need encouragement. Especially, as some students lack confidence in themselves, like me.

So I’m very thankful for the help he gave me and he still encourages me even now via phone calls and emails.

Now he is working in London, and I stay in ShenZhen. But we miss each other so much! When I’m sad he always makes me happy. Every time when I hear his voice, my mood will be happy.

I will never forget that we were always happy together.

If you come here often, you will know him more.

Please connect with your friends often!

May you call your friends forever!
