Avenging
Heroics
Avengers
Disassembled is the upcoming major storyline for Marvel Comics premier
superhero team.
The
Avengers were originally formed from the joining of the most powerful
heroes ‘to fight the foes no single hero could withstand’.
This
was always my favourite concept among the many superhero titles.
Starring
the powerhouses of Marvel Comics the now classic team featured at
its core, Iron Man the playboy entrepreneur and the mighty Thor
of the Asgardian Norse gods.
Also
on the team was Captain America, the super soldier born in World
War 2.
Rounding
off the team were the Wasp who can shrink to insect size and the
various guises of size changing scientist Henry Pym, notably Ant-Man,
Goliath and Yellow Jacket. |

Their
rallying cry of "Avengers Assemble!" has been heard throughout
the years in many of their epic battles.
Many
superheroes have joined their ranks since their initial formation including
the Vision, The Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye and the Black Panther.
They
can also call upon a plethora of reinforcements, at one stage setting
up a subdivision of the team.
In
addition, many great writers and artists have told engaging and
personal stories which have been collected in various trades and
are readily available in print.
All
are highly recommended.
So
begins their destruction… and rebirth.
Writer
Brian Michael Bendis has crafted a master tale, which will lead
to the formation of a brand new team with a radical agenda.
You
can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs however
and major shakeups are in order.
Brain
Bendis is without a doubt the man who has helped to transform the
fortunes of Marvel Comics.
One
of the best writers of his generation, he started out working on
independent comics (indies) where his style caught the attention
of many. |

He
made his name in the superhero field writing the Image Comics series,
Powers.
A
series that is an in-your-face must read.
Now
at Marvel he helped start up the Ultimate line of comic books which reinvented
many of Marvels icons.
In
particular Ultimate Spiderman, which under his helm has become a
best seller.
His
trademark is in-depth, accurate characterization and some of the
best dialogue ever seen in a comic book or any storytelling medium
for that matter.
Bringing
these skills to The Avengers will build on the impressive traditions
and history of the book and make it even more accessible to new
readers.
Mixing
science fiction, fantasy, widescreen action and personal drama,
The Avengers can more than equal any blockbuster movie for sheer
scope and ambition.
This
is one series I urge you to pick up and have a read.
Good,
quality writing nowadays is rare to find so lovers of a good story
will treasure this and any of Bendis’s work. |
