When one person just cannot make a difference, a team of unparalled quality is called for.

Enter the Avengers! The Roger Stern and the late John Buscema run of the Avengers is, according to me, the high water mark of the series. This title introduced me to the world of superheroes and life hasn't quite been the same since. Unmissable storytelling and drama, this was real page turning stuff. Rarely has a team gelled so perfectly like this one. Captain America. Hercules. Captain Marvel. The Black Knight. The Wasp.

Stern sure knew how to craft a tale that would hook you from the first page and pull you in.

Coupled with the mastery of John Buscema, my favourite penciller, you just couldn't get much better than this.

They created visions detailing journeys to the prehistoric Savage Land, a Skrull infested Space Station, a heart breaking moment of defeat at the hands of the Masters of Evil and an enraged father seeking revenge for his son's injuries.

Particularly dangerous since the father in question was Zeus, king of the Olympian gods.

Led at first by founder member the Wasp, who after a traumatic encounter, passed on the mantle to Captain Marvel.

Only now, have the Avengers regained that stature as one of the world's greatest superteams in my eyes and it's great to see.

Not for nothing are the Avengers dubbed 'Earth's Mightest Heroes!'

Nuff said!
