Rawle Austin presents...

<Previous Cool Movie Picks...|More Cool Movie Picks...>

The Incredibles

Superheroes.

Imagine a family of superheroes long since retired from saving the world and are now brought back into action.

This is a great new family comedy from Pixar Animation who gave us Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo.

Animated in the same 3D CGI style as those earlier classics.

You have to go and see this one. I'm just glad for the greater exposure of the superhero genre to the world, but that's just me!

Go see!

Master & Commander

Set in the 19th century when big ships ruled the waves and naval power was all.

This is a tale of a cat and mouse chase between British and French warships for the command of the sea.

A test for the captains, Russell Crowe plays the British captain and leads an excellent cast in this absorbing adventure story.

The period costumes and ships are designed so well you'd think you were there! Getting soaked!

Watch this movie!

Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban

A very British blockbuster.

This third in the series is the best one yet and easily surpasses the average first two installments for quality and mood.

Set in Britain and starring some of our finest acting talent, this is what I want to see more of.

Ambitious fantasy and science fiction done well.

Watch out Harry!

Pure gold!

Blade: Trinity

The final chapter of the trilogy.

This is the franchise that re-started the ball rolling for all current successful comic book based movies!

A Marvel Comics character. Wesley Snipes is the man, playing Blade the Vampire Hunter.

Half man, half vampire, hunting the blood suckers who feed off the human race. These films have been refreshing and packed with excitement, action and killer special effects.

If you haven't seen the first two, check them them out. Blade: Trinity will be a smash!

Fantastic Four

Based on the comic book title that began the Marvel Comics revolution.

Four people gain fantastic powers in a scientific accident and the world is never the same!

With special effects now able to realize the original concepts, I promise you this will be a major movie and a visual feast!

Just wait 'til you first meet the elastic Mr. Fantastic! The monstrous Thing! The Invisible Woman and the Human Torch! You won't forget them in a hurry!

Originally conceived by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Spider-Man 2

The most famous Marvel Comics character worldwide!

The sequel to the 2002 global smash!

This time Spider-Man battles Dr Octopus!

Helmed by original director Sam Raimi, this will be strongly character based with crazy action!

Batman Begins

The rebirth of an icon.

Staying true to his comic book detective roots is the only way forward and this is finally being done.

Starring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, the Dark Knight has truly returned!

Scarecrow beware!

Guest starring Morgan Freeman,Liam Neeson, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.

Troy

Quite simply, this will be one of the spectacles of the year.

On a scale not seen since Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings adaptations.

Taken from the ancient Greek myth of the Trojan War. The war that began for the love of one woman. If you must see one film in the cinema, make it this one!

Don't wait for the DVD. Trust me, this needs to be experienced on the big screen!

With a cast that reads like a who's who of the great and the good in cinema, Brad Pitt, Peter O'Toole, Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana.

Van Helsing

The story of the monster hunter and his battle with his nemesis, Dracula.

Van Helsing's career is to eradicate the creatures who prey upon humankind and you'll see a fair few here including Frankenstein and the Werewolf.

Starring Hugh (Wolverine from the X-Men movie) Jackman in the lead role and Kate (from the movie Underworld) Beckingsale and his partner.

This will be stuffed full of fantastic CGI special effects and looks to be a lot of fun. Watch it.

Elektra

First seen in the Daredevil movie this is the origin tale of the martial arts mistress and trained assassin.

Created by comic book talent and legend Frank Miller, this will show the evolution of this irresistible character.

Played by Jennifer Garner I was impressed by her role in Daredevil and this film will fill out her character even more.

With some crazy fighting sequences this will be one to see.

Kill Bill, Parts 1 & 2

The Bride.

She's looking to... Kill Bill!

Fused with some Japanese anime inspired set pieces, this is a joy to behold.

Directed by Quentin Tarantino, yes that Tarantino of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and the quality, Jackie Brown. Starring Uma Thurman, Vivica A Fox, Lucy Liu, Darryl Hannah and David Carradine to name a few, these films will be hot.

The fight scenes are choreographed the legendary Yuen Wo Ping, who worked on the Matrix Trilogy and are truly awesome. Check it out!

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

A long wait but this will be the final part of the first trilogy.

The one which links both trilogies.

We will see the origin of Darth Vader, one of the most memorable screen villains of all time!

For those who haven't seen Star Wars, this is a classic heroic story that you will never forget.

A battle against impossible odds! A romance! And spectacular action sequences mixing ancient mythology with science-fiction.

Catwoman

Inspired by the DC Comics character, who is a frequent thorn in Batman's side, Catwoman is played by Oscar winner, Halle Berry.

When a shy graphic designer is wrongfully killed in a conspiracy, she is reborn, by a strange twist of fate, with the speed, strength, agility and ultra sharp senses of a cat.

Then she pursues justice!

Feline action galore!

The Last Samurai

One man fights to protect his ancient heritage and way of life from being destroyed by the fires of the modern world.

Aided by a jaded American soldier fresh from the civil war.

An epic battle set about 150 years ago in Japan.

This is a tale of passion, honour and war.

Starring Tom Cruise.

Underworld

Imagine Romeo and Juliet as vampires and werewolves with cool action sequences and special effects!

A modern day love story set against feuding, deadly creatures in an urban setting.

Very stylish, very dark.

Starring Kate Beckinsale, this must be seen!

Pirates of the Caribbean

Ho, ho, ho and a bottle of rum.

A fun romp featuring Aztec gold, supernatural pirates, sword fights, mad heroics and a historical setting.

I'm a sucker for period dramas anyway.

Johnny Depp's character, "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow!", is just plain mad!

Very enjoyable.

Also featuring Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

A group of very different, some supernatural, characters join forces to defeat a greater menace.

With amazing action scenes and special effects this is set in the Victorian era and is loosely based on an original comic book by British writer extraordinaire, Alan Moore.

Tomb Raider 2: The Cradle of Life

Right!

Let's go adventuring!

Yes, she's back.

It's the UK's very own Lara Croft, in some spectacular locations and doing some mad action scenes with great special effects!

All to obtain and secure an ancient, mystical and all powerful artifact.

Pure escapism! Great Stuff!

The Matrix Revolutions

What can I say?

The final chapter.

The film that broke the mould with ground-breaking special effects and set a new standard in action sci-fi movies!

The final fates of Neo, Morpheus, Trinity and the last city of Zion hanging in the balance.

It's man versus machine!

Or should that be, versus Agent Smith...?!

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Quite simply, the end of the greatest fantasy epic of all time!

Swords and sorcery at it's best.

Whether or not you have read the original book/s by J R R Tolkien, this adaptation directed by Peter Jackson is a work of art that needs to be experienced on the big screen.

You must see it!

Hellboy

Originally a comic book by Mike Mignola, this is a dark tale which will need to be seen to be believed.

A demon is summoned by the forces of evil but is recruited by the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defence and now fights for good.

Great CGI special effects and a good adaptation of the comic book.

The Punisher

Marvel Comics' self made vigilante waging a one man war against the people who killed his family.

Starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta this will be compared with Kill Bill for the violence quotient.

Borrowing heavily from the Punisher comic book by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, the skull on the chest will be a memorable image.

Don't mess with him!

Bend it like Beckham

This is a fantastic feel-good British comedy that you will love.

It deals with the conflicts of family life against pursuing your own dreams.

A girl from a strict Indian Sikh family desperately wants to play football (soccer) and emulate her hero, England football player, David Beckham.

Beautifully directed by Gurinder Chadha and starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley.

Check it out and enjoy!
