We are where we are... Renewal

Ok, so we've had the General Election here in the U.K. Whoever said that a week is a long time in politics wasn't wrong. A Hung Parliament was delivered and enter the deals by the three main parties to form a government.

The likeliest outcome is either a coalition between the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats or a minority Conservative government. Britain will have a new Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, David Cameron. Change is always good for renewal and it should be embraced. The Labour Party should spend a bit of time in Oppostion to rediscover themselves.

This periodic changing of the guard is healthy and prevents staleness in my view. It's best for the National interest and the good of the country. Stability is essential. I've always been fascinated by politics, which is about helping people, and these have indeed been interesting times.

A Creative Boost...

I'm happy to be creating stories in comic book format as more original content for this site. While it's nice to be talking about the creativity of others, there's something about doing your own thing that just inspires. It's something I've dreamt of doing for a long time and after many attempts, it's underway.

It's not as easy as I thought it would be but the challenge is fun. One thing I've noticed is how complicated superhero costumes have become nowadays. So I've tried to bring back a simplicity of design, not least because its easier to draw, lol. I'm learning storytelling on the job. Eight superheroes, eight panels. The Eight. It's that simple.

Breaking this creative block has really opened up the gates to other sections of the site. I'm updating my Chinese and East Asian film reviews section in a new lease of life. Classic reviews are being tidied up in preparation for new content. I've got a new source of learning for the violin which is helping get back into the groove.

Renewal is an essential part of life. It's refreshing and re-invigourating and step by step I'm getting there. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. It's essential to enjoy the journey.

The Best of the Best...

Been really impressed with the form of Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) this season. They have been consistent throughout and remain in fourth place as I type this. If things remain as they are then we'll be in the European Champion's League for the first time in many, many years. That is the big leagues, the creme de la creme, the best of the best.

Only by being among the best can you improve and drag yourself up there to where you want to be. It's something I try to live by and, though I may stumble along the way, I know I'll get there in the end.

The Return of the Rich List...

The annual event arrived again and marks the only time of the year when I actually buy a physical newspaper, the Sunday Times. All my news is gained online and on TV.

This list features some of the most inspirational and creative people in the UK and is always motivating.

They get things done regardless of circumstances and shows what can be achieved if you never give up on your goals.

Movie viewing...!!

Seen a few films these past three months. Avatar in 3D was amazing and really took advantage of the technology. The film was awesome too and pulled you into its beautiful world.

Alice in Wonderland was the sequel to the cartoon and was also a great movie but its 3D wasnt the best. Tim Burton really made the world his own and the performances were fantastic.

Finally, Clash of the Titans was a marvellous piece of storytelling and it finally showed the ancient Greek gods in all their glory. Amazing CGI special effects which made it a spectacle which had to be seen on the big screen.

Next, looking forward to Iron Man 2. Very excited for that... ;)

Who is Back...!!

There's a brand new Doctor Who! Finally watched the last David Tennant specials and witnessed the regeneration into his new form. At a stroke, Matt Smith became the eleventh Doctor. What a great start!

Overseen by head writer Steven Moffatt, who is a master of the craft, I think this new series has hit the ground running. His new assistant, Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan is an amazing addition and the two of them have a great on screen chemistry.

I've loved all the episodes so far, the Daleks and the Weeping Angels have been the hightlights for me and there's loads more to come! Bring it on I say!

Moving...

About to move home so have been packing and getting ready for that. Been spending a lot of time decluttering. I'm amazed at how much stuff I'd accumulated over the years. Much of it I was emotionally attached too so it was hard to part with it.

Especially various comics and graphic novels. One thing that helped was that I realised that I'm looking for brightness and optimism in my stories now. So all the darker stuff that once attracted me had to go. Gave a lot to the British Heart Foundation charity shop and my local Streatham Library.

Clearing clutter had the added benefit of clearing my mind and helped me to do things that's I'd put off for a long time. One was actually creating comic book strips, and the other was simple reading. I hadn't read a graphic novel in over a year and I had a backlog to read. I have since enjoyed World War Hulk, Incredible Hercules and now reading Secret Invasion. All great stories from Marvel Comics.

Moving brings its own emotions as I've lived in the same place all my life. So a new adventure awaits!

What I'm reading at the moment...

The Story of America in Pictures by Alan C Collins.

I first discovered this book from my girlfriend's grandmother in Chicago, USA. I didn't get to finish it there but loved it so much I had to try and find a copy.

It's long out of print but found it second hand on Amazon. Always wanted to know USA history and this was a great introduction. Recommended!

Catchup...

Ok, so I've been back in the UK since mid January 2010, it's now coming up to the end of April and pleased with site progress so far. Especially The GrowlerVerse, which is coming along nicely.

Violin playing has paused for a while, six months in fact, but is slowly being re-awakened with the goal to add more videos of me playing in future.

The General Election debates have been fascinating. I've always had a love for politics so this has been good to see. A real three horse race seems to be developing. Whatever the result, change is always good... ;)

Cool Comic Book Artwork...

A representation of the new, brighter direction of Marvel Comics stories. Hope and positivity abound! Art by the amazing Jimmy Cheung. I've always loved his art style. All characters © & ™ Marvel Comics.
