Growler's Random Thoughts...

INDEX

Current Random Thoughts...>

Rawle Austin's Blog - Positive life commentary...

Creatively speaking...

Two things that really float my boat are entrepreneurship and creativity.

Some role models or heroes that currently inspire me on the entrepreneur front are Sir Richard Branson, Stelios, Philip Green and Sir Alan Sugar.

Creatively I believe superhero comic books are one of the most innovative mediums around and some of the masters (writers) of this form are Warren Ellis, Alan Moore, Mark Millar and Grant Morrison.

Just thought I'd share that with you.

Pinch, punch, first day of the month and no returns...

Yes, it's the first of May and the picture on my London calendar shows the splendor of St Paul's Cathedral.

Happy May Day, one and all!

Come on you, Spurs!

Spurs 1 - 0 Bolton

One more win and the Champions League will be ours for the taking!

And next season I will attend my first ever match at Whitehart Lane.

Leaving the armchair behind.

Quality!

Time Lord, Time Warp...

Great episode this one.

Dr Who knows how to build a new audience while not alienating the old guard.

Simply the best TV Sci-Fi the UK has ever produced.

A rusty K9 and Sarah Jane were handled beautifully and the interaction with Rose was inspired.

And Billie Piper is absolutely fit...

Great stuff!

David Tennant has made me a believer.

8 out of 10

Blue is the colour...

So they've done it again.

Chelsea have won the premiership for the second time in two years.

Beat Man U, 3 - 0

Congrats to the Blues.

Mourhinho is inspiring.

Don't worry, Spurs'll be joining you in the Champions League next season!

Go on! Have a laugh!!!

Hmmm.

Thanks to my mate Pam for sending me this via e-mail.

EVER WONDER...

...why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

...why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

.....why you don't ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?

.....why "abbreviated" is such a long word?

...why doctors call what they do "practice"?

...why you have to click on "Start" to stop Windows 98?

...why lemon juice is made with artificial flavor, while dishwashing liquid is made with real lemons?

.....why the man who invests all your money is called a broker?

...why there isn't mouse-flavored cat food?

.....who tastes dog food when it has a "new & improved" flavor?

.....why Noah didn't swat those two mosquitoes?

...why they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

.....why they don't make the whole plane out of the material used for the indestructible black box ?

.....why sheep don't shrink when it rains?

.....why they are called apartments when they are all stuck together?

...if con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

.....why they call the airport "the terminal" if flying is so safe?

In case you need further proof that the human race is doomed because of stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods.

On a Sears hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. (and that's the only time I have to work on my hair).

On a bag of Fritos: ..You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. details inside. (the shoplifter special)?

On a bar of Dial soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that would be how???....)

On some Swanson frozen dinners: "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but, it's "just" a suggestion).

On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom): "Do not turn upside down."(well...duh, a bit late, huh)!

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding:"Product will be hot after heating" (...and you thought????...)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron: "Do not iron clothes on body." (but wouldn't this save me more time?)

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine:"Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness" (and...I'm taking this because???.....)

On most brands of Christmas lights: "For indoor or outdoor use only." (as opposed to... what?)

On a Japanese food processor: "Not to be used for the other use." (now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Sunsbury's peanuts: "Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a news flash)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts: "Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts."( Step 3: maybe, uh... fly Delta?)

On a child's superman costume: "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly." (I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one...!)

On a Swedish chainsaw:"Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or genitals." (...was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

You like?

TV or not TV? That is the question...

Ain't it funny how many things are vying for everyone's time these days.

We're quite the 'quick snack society' for our entertainment these days.

What do we do when we get a few precious minutes to take a breath?

I've boiled my spare (though I don't know what's spare about it...)time down to reading the odd comic book/graphic novel to watching the odd film to writing film reviews.

TV only gets on my radar when a friend recommends something. Never get round to reading the TV guides...

Satellite/Cable has given us more choice but fractured the whole communal experience to an extent.

Here's to affordable mobile TV content and all who sail in her...

Dumplings, like you've never known them...

Those of a nervous disposition, look away now.

Went to a film screening last Wednesday...

Dumplings is a new horror film by director Fruit Chan with director of photography Christopher Doyle and starring Bai Ling.

Set in Guangdong Province in China this horror film tells the story of one womans recipe for eternal youth.

Dumplings (Jiao zi) with a special ingredient.

Needless to say this film is not for the faint hearted and is quite graphic in places.

The disturbing subject matter is offset by a quite entertaining mix of characters and I feel will acheive quite the cult status (whatever that means these days... )

Is it worth seeing?

In a word.

Yes

8 out of 10 for originality.

Told in the Chinese Mandarin language with English subtitles

Certificate: 18, Running time: 91 minutes

Released by Tartan Films

You're Fired!!!

Still reeling from Syed Ahmed's exit from The Apprentice.

Once my pick to win the whole thing.

Mr 'I'm from the East End' sat in the boardroom with Ruth, my other candidate for the final.

The 'Inner City boy' as he now likes to call himself crashed and burned in that last task but hey, what an entertainer.

If he gets himself a good agent he should make a few bob.

Now I reckon the final will be Ruth and Paul duking it out.

The Badger vs Alfie.

The Badger should win by a nose...

Wednesdays. 9pm. BBC2.

Be there!

Brekkie...

Must remember to buy some milk on the way home today.

Sitting here with no tea or cereal is not fun...

But on the plus side, I'm feeling like a lean, fresh blogging machine.

Oh, you lucky people...

A little morning brain food...

MSN messenger is so cool.

I use it to contact friends and former students in China most mornings (they're 8 hours ahead of us in the U.K).

Technology, eh?

Who knows how we'll be communicating in 10 years time...

Care for a joke?

This'll make you smile...

A precious little girl walks into a pet shop and asks in the sweetest little lisp,

"Excuthe me, mithter, do you keep widdle wabbits?"

As the shopkeeper's heart melts, he gets down on his knees, so that he's on her level, and asks,

"Do you want a widdle white wabby or a thoft and fuwwy bwack wabby or maybe one like that cute widdle bwown wabby over there?"

She, in turn blushes, rocks on her heels, puts her hands on her knees, leans forward and says in a quiet voice,

"I don't fink my pet python weally gives a thit."

Well I laughed out loud...

Comics and things...

Does anyone even know about Newsarama?!

Quite simply the best superhero comic book related website on the planet!

With the most entertaining message boards around.

Check it out.

Read The New Avengers: Secrets and Lies trade at the weekend. From Marvel Comics.

Damn cool it was too, Ronin was finally introduced to the group and Spiderwoman's origin and purpose was fleshed out. Masterfully written by Brian Bendis and illustrated by David Finch and Frank Cho.

It's off to work I go...

Spring is in the air...

Was a pretty grey day today in old London town. Spots of rain. Spring is really struggling to appear.

I can imagine the great wrestling match in the sky. Winter has Spring in a headlock.

Spring is banging on the canvas. The referee is counting down but Spring isn't done yet...

I'm the Doctor...

Can't believe I missed Doctor Who yesterday!

Too engrossed in building up the website that it never even dawned on me til now.

Will have to check for repeats.

Growler's Random Thoughts. Ooh! Electric Boogaloo!

Out of nowhere, the fun continues!

Absolutely anything I can think of is fair game!

Believe me, nothing will ever be the same!

Oh, well. On with the show!

Random Thoughts will feature a unique sense of fun!!

Hey, hey, hey, it's time to play!!!
