Rawle Austin's Blog - Positive life commentary...

Interesting...

'Those who have most to do, and are willing to work, will find the most time.'

- Samuel Smiles

Inspirational extras...

I love creativity and one of the best ways I find to get inspired is to listen to other creatives talk about their craft.

If, like me, you don't have direct access to some of the top film directors and script writers in the business then the next best thing are the behind the scenes extras that are featured on DVDs.

The stories relating to how a project came to be from the initial idea to the final, finished product are astounding.

I recently watched the script writer, Gregory Widen, of the film Highlander talk about making that movie.

It was a joy to hear his approach to creative process and comparing this with other talented individuals gives me fresh ideas to go forward with.

I can particularly recommend watching the extras for the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy for a fantastic, detailed course in all things creative.

So, the moral of this story is, when in need of inspiration, listen to inspiring, successful people.

And the winner takes all...!

Lewis Hamilton has won his first ever Formula One Grand Prix in his debut season! The 22 year old came first in the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

This result puts him top of the drivers championship.

Absolute class!

He is someone who clearly believes in himself and his abilities, one of the secrets of success.

Nurtured from a young age with a first class team and mentors, the sky really is the limit for him now.

I'm reminded of an old saying, 'Aim for the stars and the sky will catch you.'

See more about Formula One Grand Prix here.

Bolly good show...!

The glamourous stars of Bollywood came to the UK for the International Indian Film Awards.

A glitzy occasion, the great and the good attended. Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachan and Aishwaiya Rai all strolled up the green carpet. Green was to highlight environmental issues.

I'm a fan of Bollywood movies because of their sheer ambition. They always push the envelope and strive for ever greater quality.

My favourite actress is Kareena Kapoor due to her strong, positve attitude. The majority of Bollywood films are lavish musicals with stunning dance routines and often beautiful backdrops.

A couple of recent quality Bollywood films to check out are Don by Farhan Akhtar and 36 China Town by Abbas Mustan.

Take a peek behind the curtain of the awards ceremony!

Blink and you'll miss the Doctor...!

Just seen a fantastic episode of Doctor Who!

'Blink' was written by Steven Moffat and had all the stuff I love.

Haunting tragedy involving time travel and very clever plot twists.

Imagine being sent back through time and forced to live out the rest of your days there?

Imagine creatures who move so fast that if you blink, you miss them.

This was brilliant, brilliant stuff with a touch of horror.

Doctor Who is going from strength to strength on Saturdays at 7.10 pm on BBC1.

Looking forward to more.

See what it's all about!

Free spirit...

I love this quote because of its boldness and clear vision.

'I'm the luckiest guy in the world in terms of what I do for a living. No one can tell me to do things I don't believe in or things I think are stupid.'

- Warren Buffett (The world's 4th richest man as of 2007)

What do you bring to the table...?

That's what people are asking nowadays. It applies to applying for jobs, starting a business or creating an investment.

What skills do you possess? What have you got to offer? What do you bring to the party?

That's the bottom line.

It's always good to keep learning new things as you never know what's round the corner.

I find it quite refreshing and it keeps you from becoming stale.

So keep updating your knowledge and skills. The more stuff you know, the better chance you'll have of success.

All skills are good by the way. Especially the ones you enjoy.

So remember, don't get comfortable, get skills!

Getting things done...

I find this quote quite inspirational, see what you think.

"First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality.

The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination."

- Napoleon Hill

What I'm reading at the moment...

Branding for Dummies by Bill Chiaravalle and Barbara Findlay Schenck.

It's funny how practically everything around us is a brand. You, me and loads of products and services.

It's a good way to stand out from the crowd.

I'm learning more about branding to strengthen the whole Growlersworld experience.

Hope you enjoy the ride.

Think about the future...

Food for thought.

'The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever they do, whoever they are.'

by C S Lewis

Which witch is a wild witch...? Growler knows!

And now for something a little different.

The following poem is taken from the book Tim and Tobias - Magic in the Wind by Sheila K McCullagh.

I just wanted to share it with you.

These series of books were my first introduction to fantasy fiction many moons ago and had an amazing selection of mystical creatures and characters.

The intricate stories of Tim and the Hidden People hold up well today and the only comparison would be J K Rowling's Harry Potter.

Enjoy.

Green eyes glow in the dark

When cats with witches dwell

But which cat is a witch cat?

Only a witch can tell.

House brooms sweep;

Witch brooms fly;

But which broom is a witch broom

To sail across the sky?

Some witches are safe,

Silent, strange and slow.

Some are wicked and wild

And dance when the storm winds blow;

But which witch is a wild witch?

Only the witches know.
