<Previous Random Thoughts... | Current Random Thoughts...>
A time for new challenges, new opportunities and new experiences. A couple of personal things I want to do are more regular exercise and healthier eating. The future has never been so open and exciting. I want to see more of London and as the old saying goes 'the person who is tired of London is tired of life.' I'll be taking photographs and adding them to this site. Taking a walk recently around London's Parliament Square I saw two new additions to the collection of statues. Nelson Mandela and David Lloyd George. Both remarkable individuals, they changed the lives of millions of people by contributing positively to society in their own way. The American Presidential election race is hotting up with Barack Obama winning the first stage of the contest to choose a Democratic candidate. The theme seems to be 'time for a change' and I believe change is always good. The actual election isn't until November but the whole process is fascinating to watch. I've always had an interest in national political drama here in the UK and this is just as spellbinding. It'll be the first US election that I've followed in any kind of detail. I just like to see and feel the mood of the nation and listen to some inspiring speeches. Inspiration comes from all around us.
Now is the season of goodwill to all and thoughts go out to all readers through out the globe. I'd like to include family and friends worldwide particularly in UK, Guyana and China. 2007 has been an interesting year so far and here's looking to 2008 for more innovation, creative juices and fun. Peace and love to all.
Ok, so I guess you've heard about Facebook and MySpace, two of the best social networking websites out there. But did you know that Web 2.0 websites can also be used as learning tools for serious educational use? Check out this amazing list of sites compiled by teacher Larry Ferlazzo Also, internet use is on the up amongst teenagers and what they do with it is interesting reading. Including creating online content in the form of blogs, social network sites, photos, videos and remixing content found elsewhere online. The complete report is here and while reading it see how you compare, regardless of age and geographical location. Do you create your own content? Or do you enjoy others' content? That's the beauty of the internet, what you do is up to you. Let creativity reign!
It's funny how life can throw random events at you and, if you navigate them well, opens up all sorts of opportunities. Keeping positive and an open mind can bring a wealth of new ideas and people into your life. So how to maintain a positive attitude? Well, there are loads of advice in various books and online which deal with just that. I would say just find a successful person and you'll see positivity right there. Like a beacon glaring in the night. Radiating achievement and great results. And remember, when something goes wrong, it's no one's fault but yours.
Creativity has no age or bounds. Take for example 16 year old Louis Barnett. When he was 11 years old he began making chocolates at home in his parents garage. He discovered what he was good at and focussed on it. He left school soon after and now, aged 16, he owns a business which supplies chocolates to major supermarkets Sainsbury's and Waitrose. Oh, and he now employs his parents to help with the whole operation. What an inspiration! The world is clearly his oyster and he can only go on to future greatness. Follow your dreams! Discover what you can do better than anyone else in the world and run with it!
I first read a heavy abridgement of this story way back in Primary school and it has always fascinated me. I've never gone back to read it and had totally forgot the main story. So I was very intrigued to see this big screen film adaptation by none other than Neil Gaiman no less! I heard it was shot in 3D and admittedly I was a little sceptical as I kept thinking of 3D as those cardboard glasses you see everywhere with the red and blue flimsy film lenses. How wrong I was! The Vue cinema in Leicester Square were showing it in a format called RealD. A brand of 3D film that came with quality free 3D glasses. Ok, I was impressed with that but would the movie look good in all its 3D glory? Hell yes! I was literally blown away by the realism of the CGI graphics and the 3D experience. The story set in medieval times centres around a warrior searching for glory but gets a little more than he bargained for. Now let me say that this film is heavy on action and after a while you're just absorbed into the story. I won't spoil it for you but this was made for big screen. After four amazing years I have moved on from my position as a film reviewer at Chinatown Magazine. It was a fantastic learning experience all round and I had the pleasure of working with some very talented people who I wish nothing but the very best for the future. I'll be following the progress of the Pearl Foundation and will continue to be an avid supporter of the good work they do. As for me I'll now be focussing on GrowlersWorld, learning Mandarin Chinese with a view to take a GCSE exam in the subject and increasing my skills and life experiences. Basically helping people in my own way. As this column is the closest thing I have to a blog I'll be keeping you informed of progress. As the old saying goes "If you want to be the best you must learn from the best, work with the best and compete with the best." So here goes...
Walt Disney - The Biography by Neal Gabler. I've always been fascinated by the whole Disney experience from the animation to the theme parks. The Disney brand conjures up almost universal good feelings. To think this was all created by one man's vision is nothing short of astounding. I've just started the book and the background is amazing. One thing I've picked up immediately is the determination to follow his dream and achieve his goals. Very inspiring indeed. See what Disney is all about, here.
