What I'm reading at the moment... A Double Take...

Ok, first up we have 'How the mighty fall and why some companies never give in' by Jim Collins.

This is guaranteed to provide positive and inspired thinking to keep the mind fresh.

I'm an ardent follower of the principles of it's author Jim Collins. I re-read his previous books often (Good to Great and Built to Last) and constantly find new avenues for growth (for this site and personally).

The best brain food.

And secondly, The Violin, An illustrated History by Yehudi Menuhin.

Menuhin was one of the greatest violinist's of all time. Imagine my joy when reading this book.

His words augment the magic I find while learning the violin and it helps to keep me motivated. I have a new appreciation of Folk music where the violin has its roots.

A fantastic read and sharing the knowledge of this virtuoso is a great feeling!

Michael Jackson 1958 - 2009... R.I.P

I was shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of Michael Jackson at age 50. I woke up that morning (26th June 2009) and turned on the news channel to see that headline.

Totally unbelievable, especially after hearing of the passing of Farrah Fawcett (of Charlie's Angel's fame) the day before.

He was a true creative genius and one of the all time greats. He provided much of the soundtrack of my life to date. Of my music collection I have more of his songs than any other artist.

I first became a fan of his music when the BAD album came out in the late '80s. I remember playing my cassette tape until it nearly wore out.

To this day I know all the songs on that album and a lot of the words.

Dangerous was his next album and another favourite which came out around the time my mum passed away (also from a heart attack, at age 48). A lot of memories there.

These albums contained timeless, excellent songs and the accompanying music videos were ground breaking in every way.

Who can forget Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Remember the time, Billie Jean and more?

They had worldwide appeal. He was a global superstar.

Of course, this was just the tip of the iceberg. His musical and dancing legacy from his days in the Jackson 5 to first going solo were legendary and he just seemed to keep getting better.

Off the Wall and Thriller were albums I only heard fully in the last two years but I had known much of the songs as they've been played constantly on the radio and TV over the years.

His achievements were stratospheric and went to show that if you worked hard and practised constantly you could be one of the greatest.

A true inspiration.

So, with this in mind I choose to celebrate his life through his music.

My favourite Michael Jackson song is Man in the Mirror. His songs have now been uploaded on my phone and are being played constantly.

MJ was the whole package, writng songs, singing and dancing. A font of creativity.

So rest in peace, thoughts to your family at this time and thank you for the music. Through it you will live on.

I took a few photos while walking past the temporary memorial at the London threatre, where his inspired show, Thriller, is taking place. I share one with you below.

To Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before...

The origin of James T Kirk and Spock. I'm talking about the new Star Trek movie directed by JJ Abrams.

Fantastic film!

Full of emotion and great use of special effects and classical music to enhance the emotions.

Having recently watched the classic Star Trek movies this was even more of a treat.

The casting was excellent and from start to finish I was captivated.

A friend rated it 9 out of 10. I give it an 8 for sheer quality.

Any fan of amazing sci-fi, spectacular adventure and great storytelling needs to watch this.
