Marvel is back with a vengeance! After succumbing to the mega successful creative onslaught of DC Comics - The New 52, they are beginning to fight back. X-Men have been relaunched with X-Men: Schism by Jason Aaron which was the best relaunch since Chris Claremont and Jim Lee were breaking records in the early nineties!

I loved the powerful storytelling whic made the entire X-Men cast and concept compelling and decluttered at a stroke. This lead to the Regenesis of the X-titles and was much needed. Also, Avengers versus X-Men is the summer event which looks awesome. Doing what superheroes do best, bombastic battles with a compelling, human story at heart.

These titles, coupled with the DC Comics new output have consolidated both what I love and what I don't like about comics. Love spandex, not a fan of hardcore violence, guns and knives. I'll be using that as a guideline while creating my own stories. It really feels that Marvel, now the underdog, have raised their game and are putting forward an A+ effort. Great stories by awesome writers and fantastic artists. That's what the beauty of comic books are all about.

52 Pick Up - The Fun Continues...

Always a beacon of creativity, click here to see the latest DC Comics - New 52 titles coming out in April 2012! (Via Newsarama)

This marks the sixth month of the DC Comics reboot known as the New 52. Its been a wonderful opportunity to examine and study the anatomy of a creative relaunch and gauge people's reactions too. Six titles have been cut including OMAC which I was quite enjoying.

New titles have been announced to take their place including World Finest and Earth Two which look awesome. I've enjoyed quite a bit of it and the inevitable cutting down has already begun. Still enjoying more DC titles than Marvel which is a record for me. So with that in mind I can definitely call this new direction a success. Having all their titles in the Top Ten comic book charts also rams home this point.

Very easy to get in on the ground floor. It also means that creators with their own characters have to raise their game to compete in the market. I've learnt a lot from this relaunch which also marked the first time I've read monthly comics regularly in almost 5 years. I switched to trades and am now looking to go digital. All this knowledge will be put to good use in the creation of my superhero characters. Watch this space for future details! ;)

Ok, so its been over a month since I last updated this section. Believe me, the best things come to those who wait. I've updated a couple of interviews, links to come, and got my drawing mojo back after a whole lot of decluttering and re-organising in my life. You'll see updates of artwork with my own original superhero characters and hear the progress being made.

For now, click here to read an inspiring account of creative goodness from Barrie Armstrong on photography. Exclusively in the GrowlersWorld Interviews!
