The GrowlersWorld Interviews

INDEX

The GrowlersWorld Interviews are an ongoing quest, bringing you closer to successful and creative people in all walks of life.

Rawle Austin presents...

A conversation with Yu Jing Fen - Bringing International Business from China!

Yu Jing Fen (her English name is Fenmy Yu) lives in China and is currently studying to learn the skills that will make her goals a reality.

I chatted to her by email to find out more about her and her life.

Rawle Austin: What is the meaning of your Chinese name?

Yu Jing Fen: My chinese name is Yu Jing Fen, "Jing" means 'gracefully quiet'. My grandfather gave me this name, because he hoped I would be a gracefully quiet and beautiful girl.

RA: Where is your hometown and what is it's name?

YJF: My hometown is called Gao Guan which is located in Lian Ping town, He Yuan city, Guang Dong province.

RA: Can you describe your hometown?

YJF: My home town Gao Guan is a small and poor village. There are many hills nearby which I can see when I open the door, just like the Chinese saying "Kai Men Jian Shan".

Wan Lu Lake is a beautiful piece of scenery in my city. Every year many tourists come to see it. If you visit there, you will feel very excited because it has green hills, clean water and enthusiastic people.

RA: Where do you go to university and what do you study?

YJF: My university is the Dong Guan University of Technology, and is located in Song Shan lake, a very beautiful place.

My subject is International Business.

RA: Why did you choose this subject?

YJF: I chose this subject because this is the only subject that could I choose. But luckily, I am also interested in this subject.

In my International Business course we will learn many topics such as Western Economics, Marketing, Business English, Accounting and so on.

I hope I can be a skillful businesswoman in the future. Ha ha, that is my dream!

RA: Can you describe the life in your college? What do you enjoy most about it?

YJF: I get up at 6:40 am, then have breakfast with my roommates in the dining room, after breakfast we have some classes.

At 2:00 pm we also have two classes. If I have no classes, I will go to the library to read some books or search online in my room.

In the college, I also join in the association and volunteer group. 20 precent of the time I take part in these activities.

I most enjoy listening to the classes, because the teachers can teach us much knowledge and I feel valuable.

RA: What is your favourite food and why?

YJF: My favourite food is chicken, because it is so delicious. Every time I get back home, my mother cooks chicken for me and I feel happy and grateful.

No matter where I eat chicken I will remember my mother.

RA: What makes you happy and why?

YJF: I think talking with my friends makes me happy, because I like to make friends. Talking with my friends makes me relax, and I can learn much knowledge without the books.

When you are happy, you talk to your friends and you will feel much happier. When you are upset, you talk to your friends and you will feel more relaxed and less pressured.

It's a good way to relax yourself no matter if you are happy or not.

RA: What do you like to do when you are not studying?

YJF: When I am not studying, I enjoy listening to music and doing some sports, because they make me feel comfortable and relaxed.

I often listen to music on my computer, but I only spend a short time doing sports. I think I am getting fatter and fatter, so I will do more physical exercise this year.

I enjoy chatting online, because I can communicate with my friends and meet new people!

I also like to read some books such as novels, magazines and so on. Sometimes I will read some news. When I feel tired, I prefer to sleep rather than do other things.

RA: Why should people come to visit China?

YJF: China is an ancient country where there are more than five thousand years of history. China has a large population, you can see Chinese anywhere.

China is a multicultural country, there are 56 ethnic minorities. Each has a different culture, so you will feel the different living styles in China.

Also, China has much beautiful scenery, you can see all kinds of beautiful places, such as the Great Wall, the Terra-Cotta Warriors and so on.

Chinese people are very friendly and kind, when you visit china, you will feel it.

All in all, China is a good place that is worth visiting.

RA: Why do you like to learn English?

YJF: There are three reasons why I like to learn English. First of all, learning English is funny and interesting, because it is different from my mother language - Chinese. For me, learning English is fresh.

Secondly, learning English is our required course, so I must learn English as well as possible.

Last but not least, English is a popular language in the world, and is a common way to communicate with foreign people, so it is necessary to learn English.

RA: What do you think about the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing?

YJF: 2008 Olympic Games will be held in Beijing and I think all Chinese people feel very honoured.

I think it's a rare chance to show China to the world.

It will let more people who come from many different countries know China, know Chinese and know Chinese culture.

RA: Can you introduce your family?

YJF: In my family, there are my mother, father, two sisters and my brother. My mother is a businesswoman, she sells carpets. My father is an excellent person, he did many kinds of work but now he stays at home.

My father also is good at cooking, he cooks food that is very delicious and I like it so much. My two sisters and my brother have gone to work in factories.

Only I study in university so I should study hard and make more money in the future.

RA: And finally, what would you like to say to everyone reading this interview?

YJF: I want to say anything is possible. No matter how hard it is, just do it and be confident.

You will succeed one day if you try your best!
