The GrowlersWorld Interviews are an ongoing quest, bringing you closer to successful and creative people in all walks of life. Rawle Austin presents... A conversation with Asare Adjei - Scrambling an Amazing Life and Inspiring Others! Asare Adjei is an architect and created the hot new, amazing website/blog Scrambler. I caught up with him to see what makes him tick. Rawle Austin: Could you introduce yourself to GrowlersWorld readers? Asare Adjei: Hi, my name is Asare Adjei, I am the founder and publisher of Scrambler (scrambleyourlife.com). RA: How did the idea for Scrambler come about and how would you describe the site for a newcomer? AA: Scramble started off randomly when myself and a few friends decided to randomly travel to Germany, it led us to a series of off-the-beaten path adventures which ignited our interests in travelling off-the-beaten path rather than doing the usual mass tourist circuit. We decided to create an online travel magazine that encouraged others to seek more authentic off-the-beaten path travel adventures for themselves, and that's how Scrambler was born. The site gives you tips on the many wild global adventures you can have out there, as well as keeping you posted on global culture. RA: What has been your most memorable experience whilst running Scrambler? AA: I love the travel aspect of it all, it's a chance to connect and learn from different cultures as well as find innovative ways to share our findings. Visiting Bosnia has been one of my most memorable experiences, I went randomly horse riding, shooting at a gun range, visited waterfalls and was even made a VIP guest at a local festival, just a bizarre beautiful holiday (a true scrambling experience!). RA: What are your aims for the site, where would you like to see it take you? AA: We are starting off with an online magazine, and clothing store. We hope to later launch a physical paper version of the magazine (*it will be very cool to see people reading it on trains & planes!!)... and we hope at some point to launch our tours and actually take people on the most mind blowing travel experiences of their life!!! Scrambler is massive, it has so many different ways to grow and connect people and I just want to see it do that. It's truly about human unity and encouraging global interactions. RA: What advice would you give to someone who wants to follow your path and unleash their creativity in a similar manner? AA: Go inside and find your heart's vision (*what you love doing most and what you would like to share with the world), then trust yourself and just start doing it. Little by little, it will start to grow and that's when the fun really begins... to see something you only dreamed of start to take off is kind of a wild trip. RA: Who inspires you in life and why? AA: My friends and family are definitely an important inspiration to me. I try to surround myself with good people who are passionate about life and the world. Those who want to add a positive input to the world. I
also hangout with a lot of creative people from all walks of life (artists,
musicians, photographers/etc). Creativity is highly important to me, it
inspires me a lot. AA: Physical exercise cleans my mind and motivates, I try to spend time absorbing art or hanging out with creative people from all walks of life. Creativity is highly important to me it inspires me a lot. RA: You’re also a trained architect, why did this profession appeal to you? AA: It appealed to me for two major reasons, it trained me to think creatively (how to bring something new to the table), but most importantly it also taught me how to make my creative dreams physically tangible (construct your ideas). I find that these principles are serving me well in business, I can think up a creative business idea and then use a constructive approach to make it work. RA: What are your top three favourite examples of cool architecture and why? AA: 1. Tjibaou Cultural Centre in Numea by Renzo Piano, I love it cause it pays great homage to the culture and uses cutting edge technology whilst also being extremely eco-friendly, way before the world started to pay attention to sustainable architecture. 2. Vals Thermal Baths (Switzerland) by Peter Zumthor is just a magical place. Where do I start, the building fits well into its environment and it's constructed from local natural materials. The color of the natural stones are so beautiful, they give the place a real mystical zeal. 3. Idea Store (UK) by David Adjaye, I am biased because I worked on this building. I love its design. It's brilliant and complex yet executed with such sublime finesse that you could easily miss all the intricacies of it. I seeing the complex made simple, it's a craft to execute something so well. Again, it's also a building that nods to the 'culture' of its surroundings. RA: And finally, what last words of wisdom would you like to leave us with? AA: The true key is to surround yourself with people who are positive, generous and open. In the darkest of times, they will be the ones who will lift you up and remind you of the journey you have chosen to take. Avoid negative/bitter people, they simply hide hope from you and slowly tear you down. Beyond
that, just 'scramble your life' (once a month, do something new)!! - learn
new things about yourself and the world - this will help you to grow,
raise your awareness levels, help you to find your path and connect you
to many like minded people. You will also learn a great deal about the
world through doing this.
