It's all done. New look Growlersworld.com Took a while. Hope you like it. Feel free to send your comments. The picture on the home page is one I took of the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) in China 2004. Toying with the idea of changing the picture every month. Web design. I have a new found respect for those of you who do it full time. All feedback will be gathered and acted upon at various intervals. Have to clean up the comments in the Pictures of China link. Apologies for the rough feel of it. That will take a while... Read Nextwave! Coming in January by Warren Ellis and Stuart Immonen. Comic books at their best! (Or wait for the Trade!) Bring on the Toys!
Having fun building the new site. 'New look', upgraded Growlersworld.com. Dreamweaver is so much faster than Frontpage. Can't believe I didn't use it before! Have set a date of December 2005 to go live. So far so good. Finally read 'The Ultimates 2' trade recently. Written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Bryan Hitch. Fantastic! I was blown away. Cool twists on classic Marvel Comics characters, The Avengers. You must read this book! Oh, well. That's it for now. Back to the site building...
So here I am, with Dreamweaver MX (website building software), and the book 'Beginning Dreamweaver MX 2004'. Preparing Growlersworld.com, Mark II. The new version. Hope to be up in two months. Will keep you posted.
What's it all about? Growlersworld is inspired by Richard Branson (Virgin), Stelios (EasyJet), Bill Gates (Microsoft), Michael Dell (Dell Computers), Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad.com), Stan Lee & Jack Kirby (Marvel Comics) and Todd McFarlane (Image Comics/Spawn) to name a few. Basically, inspired by all successful entrepreneurs past, present and future. With loads of creativity thrown in. If I could describe Growlersworld in three words they would be, Adventure, Excitement and Fun. With a core belief of helping others. So that's it. That's what Growlersworld is all about. Business and Entertainment, in GROWLERVISION!
Thoughts go out to the victim's families and survivors of the earthquake in Kashmir which has affected Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. British based charity Oxfam is among the many organisations and governments worldwide providing assistance in the midst of this disaster. Please visit their website http://www.oxfam.co.uk
The website (Growlersworld.com) has been undergoing a few changes recently. Getting my act together. Plans are in motion to flesh it out a bit. This is still some time away. Have written a bunch of notes for future articles that will soon see the light of day. Been doing some market research for GITCO (Growlersworld International Trading Company). Basically giving out questionnaires seeking opinions. Looking at the possibilty of creating a service for providing Chinese manufactured educational toys online. The fun continues. Comics have been taking a bit of a back seat. Currently re-reading the JLA/Avengers crossover by Kurt Busiek and George Perez. Some great old school action and a cool story. If you haven't read it already, please do. Went to the London Chinatown Lighting Up ceremony yesterday (Sunday). Chinese Mid-Autumn day. Lots of moon cakes! It showcased the unveiling of two new public works of art by a couple of new artists. Great stuff. During the evening I got a rare chance to practice my spoken Mandarin Chinese. Very rusty and have a lot to learn. Went on behalf of Chinatown magazine (who I write film reviews for). A good night was had by all!
See the world in GROWLERVISION!
So. We've finally done it. The England cricket team has regained the Ashes for the first time in 18 years. Australia, the world's best cricket team have been beaten. It was a sterling performance and a great team effort. This was the first cricket match I've watched (on TV) in years, I'm more of a football man, and it was great to see. The nation is on a high and there'll be a procession ending at Trafalgar Square, London tomorrow (Tuesday). Now, if only Tottenham Hotspur can win the English Football Premiership... Also of note, The Guardian newspaper has a new format (the Berliner). Changing from a broadsheet to a more tabloid size and all in full colour. Current affairs have never been so vibrant.
With the recent disaster of Hurricane Katrina in America, New Orleans and the surrounding area (which covers an area the size of Great Britain), thoughts go out to all people who have lost loved ones and people who have had their lives shattered. It will take many years for the evacuees to recover and for the area to be in a fit state to be reinhabited. It's heartening to see the American Comic Book industry coming together with fundraising activities.
Marvel Comics could do a benefit comic similar to the Spiderman 9/11 issue. It could feature characters associated with the Big Easy, Gambit of the X-Men and Pulsar (formerly known as Photon/Captain Marvel). 2005 has been a particularly bad year for natural disasters worldwide. The Asian Tsunami in January which affected Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Southern India and the major floods in Guyana, South America are but a few. The world must come together in these times of pain and show love and the goodness of humanity. The global response, as always, has been great to see and long may it continue.
