Warren Buffet is giving some money to Bill Gates to help solve some of the world's greatest problems. US$37 Billion. Truly inspiring and should set a good example encouraging more people to help others. No matter what the scale. See what it's all about; http://www.gatesfoundation.org/default.htm
Yes, there's a fresh photo on the front page. This is outside the London School of Economics on a rare sunny day. Picture taken by Bharat Bhudiya.

Long time, no see. Ok. I've written a review of the amazing French film District 13 (out July 7th) to be posted shortly and have just started reviewing Warrior King, the next Tony Jaa vehicle. This will be followed by a review of the Cave of the Yellow Dog. You'll notice the menus on either side of the site have been slightly altered to make the headings more accurately describe the contents. So Watching Dragon explains what it does, as does Growlerslog and Growlerslog 2.
Last Wednesday (7 June) I attended the launch of the first ever annual Chinese Showcase in London. It was an evening of classical, rock, pop and hip-hop music. Designed to give an airing to local Chinese/East Asian musical talent that you don't see very often. About 400 people attended and the venue, The CC Club, was buzzing. It was a great night and I suspect this will grow year on year. It's well worth checking out. It was presented by The Pearl Foundation and Chinatown - The Magazine
Here's a spoiler free review of Superman Returns. Courtesy of Comic Book Resources. Just to whet your appetite... http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=7528
Just finished an interview with Jonathan Socrates FeBland aka The Creative Explosion. Keep an eye out for it... Quite enjoying this interviewing lark. May have to start up a dedicated column for it...
The next Watching Dragon, Hidden Growler interview has been lined up. Seijun Suzuki who directed the upcoming Japanese movie Princess Raccoon (Operetta tanuki goten) starring Zhang Ziyi will be featured on Growlersworld.com in early July. Keep it right here for more details!
Growler's Links (http://www.growlersworld.com/growlerslinks.htm) has been retooled with much flab reduced and more exciting stuff added! Check it out!
Attended a book signing yesterday at the Great Britain China Centre. Author Peter Hessler was giving a talk on his new book Oracle Bones. Basically about his time in China and his experiences. A noted authority on China the seminar went down well and was packed to the rafters. He has a previous book, River Town (2002) also about life in China, which has had massive success and I've yet to read. I hadn't heard of him before today but from my own Chinese experience many of his observations brought back vivid memories of my time there so I'll be checking out both books. If you know nothing of today's China this is a good place to start short of actually visiting the country. I'll also be writing up my own experiences in the form of a two week diary which I wrote out there but haven't yet transferred to the computer. My brief write ups and pictures of China can be found here growlersworld.com/growlerstravelsandentertainment.htm - n/a
My Bai Ling interview is now up http://www.growlersworld.com/watchingdragonhiddengrowler20.htm and pictures have been added to my Dumplings review. Watching Dragon, Hidden Growler is now up to date for your reading pleasure. Enjoy. Only on Growlersworld.com Saw X-Men 3 on Saturday. Great movie. 8 out of 10. Go see it. Marvel Comics at it's best. Also had screenings for Warrior King and Cave of the Yellow Dog. Tony Jaa is the next Bruce Lee. Fantastic fighter. Look for reviews on both soon.
Anime Growler now has pictures. Take a look. http://www.growlersworld.com/animegrowler2.htm - n/a
Watching Dragon, Hidden Growler has had a makeover with long overdue pictures added. Dumplings images will be added at a later date. Check it out! http://www.growlersworld.com/watchingdragonhiddengrowler19.htm
Got a busy one next week. Tuesday, going to a screening of Warrior King. The next feature from Tony Jaa of Ong Bak fame. Wednesday, will check out The Cave of the Yellow Dog, and Thursday, should be the creme de la creme... An interview with Bai Ling, the star of Dumplings and the best performance of the movie by far. All to be featured in Chinatown Magazine at a later date and also on Growlersworld.com And who says civil servants aren't creative...? :)
Saw this yesterday. The hype is better than the film and the 'wow-moment revelation' fell a little flat. The performances were lacklustre in my opinion and I give it 6 out of 10. So there you go.
Just finished a review of the Anime series Heat Guy J. I love this! Read it on 'Anime Growler!' at Growlersworld.com Current scores; Watching Dragon, Hidden Growler = 19 articles Anime Growler! = 3 articles Growler's Film Reviews = 2 articles Growler's Comic Book Snippets = 1 article Conclusion = Gotta get a move on with those last three columns! ;)
My interview with Byambasuren Davaa, director of The Cave of the Yellow Dog is up at 'Watching Dragon, Hidden Growler' on Growlersworld.com Pictures to follow on all recent articles that don't have them at the moment. I'll let you know as they're posted.
The interview went well. The guys at Tartan Films are a cool bunch. Almost crashed and burned when I thought the tape recorder wasn't working. Thankfully, Martin, the translator, helped me to get it started. Byambasuren Davaa was great. She answered the questions in German so Martin translated. I'll transcribe for the weekend and put it on the Watching Dragon, Hidden Growler column. The Cave of the Yellow Dog is out on 30 June 2006. It's a great insight into Mongolian life and culture. Excellent story too. Highly recommended. My first ever interview and looking forward to more!
Watched District 13 today. Very, very cool movie. French made with English subtitles. A mix of martial arts and free running up and down buildings. I'll let you know when the review's up. They should use the two main leads in a proper Spiderman/Daredevil team up movie. Have to do an interview tomorrow with Byambasuren Davaa, the director of the film 'The Cave of the Yellow Dog'. Watching the screener as I write this. More of a documentary with a story and set in Mongolia. Stunning scenery and a charming cast. Again, I'll post here when the full review is up.
Just added the review for the film Dumplings at the Watching Dragon, Hidden Growler column. Only on Growlersworld.com Not for the faint hearted...
