The GrowlersWorld Violin Concertos - 6th Movement

INDEX

A late starter learning to play the violin, here are the inspirations for the journey...

Quartets and Duets...

Went to see The Harpham Quartet perform a free recital at St George's Church, Hanover Square, London.

Consisting of 2 violins, a viola and a cello they combined beautifully to make some wonderful music.

Food for the ears.

I enjoy studying violinists perform live to try and copy some of their techniques. This was inspiring to watch and just confirms that all violinists have their own style.

I've been going over the violin basics and practising playing open string tunes to cultivate that clean sound. All good fun.

This is a version of Bach's Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor. Performed by Csaba Illényi & Katica Illényi.

It's a great harmony of sounds.

Enjoy.

Sue Son's Got Talent, It's All About the Scales...!

A friend just told me to watch budding violinist Sue Son on Britain's Got Talent.

I don't normally watch the show but I checked it out on YouTube.

Wow!

Here's the link to the video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMKw-A0hKjc

I wish her great success for the future.

My violin teacher also gave me some timely advice. I said I'm trying to run before I can walk.

This was in response to my trying to learn complex pieces on my own as opposed to the basic pieces we get in the class.

Best to keep perfecting doing scales, the D major and G major scales, and learning simple tunes first.

Will definitely be doing that from now on.

Went to see a lunchtime recital by violinist Satoko Fukuda at St Martin in the Fields church, Trafalgar Square. I was a little late but glad I brought my binoculars to get a good view. Excellent performance!

A Mendelssohn Classic...

Here is violinist Sarah Chang performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, 1st Movement.

This piece has become a favourite of mine as it highlights the skill involved in playing by having a cadenza.

A cadenza is where the virtuoso can perform a complicated solo part that, if done right, sounds fantastic and lets the violinist shine!

Have a listen.
