The Shield is Raised...!
Tuesday, 14 May, 2013 - 3:21 PM

One of the beautiful things about a superhero universe is the glue that binds it together. Characters that appear all over the place, interacting with other major characters. Marvel Comics' Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is one such example. So I'm happy to hear of the upcoming TV show helmed by Joss Whedon, who also wrote and directed the Avengers movie. Check out this trailer. Enjoy... ;)

Iron Man 3 - My Review...
Saturday, 11 May, 2013 - 12:39 PM

Ok, so I recently saw Iron Man 3 for the second time, in Croydon, appropriately enough (spoiler)... ;) On the first viewing I gave it a seven out of ten. I've just raised it up a notch to eight as I missed a bit of the story first time around as there was a lot going on. I recommend it. Casting was superb and all characters served the film well. It was a complete story and fulfilled two purposes.

It served as a smaller scale, intimate sequel to the Avengers and it also wrapped up the first Iron Man trilogy nicely. It had a massive, controversial twist which was very smart I thought. One of the important factors with this new era of superhero movies is to keep things fresh. Origin stories are good but what happens next? That is the challenge and Iron Man 3 worked wonderfully.

Robert Downey Jr is perfect for Tony Stark/Iron Man, he was awesome as always. However, I do see a time when a new actor takes over the role (and the other characters too). This would be the equivalent of a new superstar artist taking over a popular comic book title and giving it a new look and feel. I welcome those changes as so many great stories have yet to be told.

The way I see it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a different beast to the Marvel Universe Proper and so they can take different paths with the characters while still keeping true to the overall themes of the shared universe. I'm looking forward to Thor 2, Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy all leading up to the Avengers sequel. I love the Marvel Universe with a passion. Indeed, it's the inspiration for my own superhero universe. Grown-up fairy tales of the highest order.

Red hair. That's the change added to these classic series of sketches. Heidi Hadaver's hair turns from brown to red as her powers manifest and StarBright walks the earth. Her passion is on full display as she flys through the air, clearly enjoying every minute. Focusing on the task at hand when she needs to with laser like precision. Quite the formidable superhero. Every so often a new piece of creativity makes me stop and take notice. This animated short from Disney is one of those times. I love the attention to detail of the characters' facial expressions. It's a romantic tale that has to be seen. So, without further ado, here it is. I've added a behind the scenes video after it for the creatively curious... ;)

Behind the Scenes - Green Avatar webcomic...!
Thursday, 17 January, 2013 - 4:55 PM

Work in Progress (WIP). Here's a quick sneak peek at the roughs that I'm pencilling at the moment. The next webcomic featuring Green Avatar is in progress! The finished work will probably look different as ideas change while I'm composing it. Fun to do. It'll take a little while to complete so keep checking back to see the completed piece.

Staying on the theme of behind the scenes of creativity, here's a short video of some of the special effects for The Avengers movie by Industrial Light and Magic (ILM). Its awesome to see and very inspiring. One of the things I loved about the film was its transition from scene to scene. So effortless and engaging in the way it pulled you in. Every part of the movie was compelling, from the quieter character moments to the massive action sequences. A complete work of art which I love. Click here to read my full review of The Avengers movie. Enjoy this video... ;)
