Liang Yan - New Chinese Writer

INDEX

Welcome to my world. My English name is LeAnne.

I come from JiangXi Province in China and am now based in GuangDong Province.

I would like to introduce you to a modern view of China from my unique and personal point of view.

The Bank in Dongguan City

Dongguan City is one of the biggest cities in Guangdong Province.

In the last few years, it has developed very fast and many foreign people and companies came here to run their own businesses.

The government has set many good policies to protect those companies so that they can do business successfully.

Because of the huge numbers of foreign investors, the natives can make much money from them.

Many Chinese nationals still live on farms. Why?

They can rent their own rooms to the people who come from other provinces to find work; they can rent their buildings as a factory workhouse.

They don’t need to farm. What they should be doing is waiting and preparing for the rental income.

As a result of this, they will have much money, but what happens then?

The banks here put a limitation on people who want to save money.

For example, in the Industrial and Commercial Bank, you must make sure that you have at least Y2000RMB (Y = Yuan, RMB = Ren min bi) with you before you go to the bank, or you can’t open a bank account, or deposit money.

At the Bank of Agriculture, you need to have more than 3000RMB when you want to save.

Maybe this policy is good for the bank to deal with their work but for the savers, it’s not safe to keep money for the 5 or 6 months it would take to save up 2000 or 3000RMB.

The workers here have salaries that are really very low, some of them just get 500RMB per month, and from this they also need to buy daily products.

If they want to save money in a bank, it will take them a long time.

And in Dongguan city, most of the people are from different places in China, sometimes, living in one bedroom.

When you have eight people living together, then eight of you would be from eight different cities or provinces.

How do you know what their character is like? How do you know if they’re good or bad?

Can you trust them?

Can you sleep well if you’ve got money with you?

Even if roommates steal money from others, they still have to live together.

For safety, you may think of sending money back to your hometown and in that case you will go to the post office.

On the way there, some bad person could rob you.

At that moment, you will not only lose your money but you could also hurt yourself when fighting with them or even worse, lose your life!

If the bank can cancel these policies and do more for the savers, such as opening on Sundays and working with a smile, then savers would have nothing to worry about.

In my hometown, you can open a bank account or make a deposit with ten yuan and if you only have one yuan you also can save that.

The staff working in that bank always serves you with a smile.

Last month, one of my friends told me that CCTV, a TV channel, had uncovered this limitation of the banks.

I thought this would have some effects, but when I went to the bank, it still kept the same policy.

You couldn’t save money unless you had more than 3000RMB.

In order to save 1000 yuan that day, I used my card to take out 2000RMB and then deposited all the money (3000 yuan) back into the same account!

Maybe you might think it’s a joke, but it’s the truth.

It happened in Dongguan City.

Even though I don’t have much money to save, I still hope that one day, we will be able to save money without limitations.
