Welcome to my world. My English name is LeAnne. I come from JiangXi Province in China and am now based in GuangDong Province. I would like to introduce you to a modern view of China from my unique and personal point of view. What is the role of women in society?
After marriage all they could do were favours to their husbands, parents-in-law and the next generation. So, they had to be orthodox housewives, had no decisions of their own and they could only do the things their husbands permitted. If their husbands were dead, they had to listen to their sons. For the women, their husbands and sons were the only men in their lives. Now, many things have changed. Women have struggled for their rights for many years and there are laws that protect them from being treated badly. They can accept education whenever they want and can choose any lifestyle they like.
However because of more than 500 years of customs, women still have much pressure. For example, they can’t be seen as being better than their husband, if they are seen as more powerful than their husband, he will often feel very disappointed and unhappy, so some men still are hegemonic. After work, women are still expected to take care or their sons, parents-in-law and do some housework. In some fields, women are not really equal to men. There are few women leaders in politics; women scientists are also very rare, and in business, women do much but get little.
More and more men will be interested in the service field; they will do housework, work as nurses and look after children. What will women do in the future? They will go out and have their jobs, they will even operate and control more companies than men as they have more patience and responsibility. They know how to communicate better and what it is like to stand in other people’s shoes to think about things. At that time, women will be really equal to men, they will be free and they will be able to do anything they like.
