Liang Yan - New Chinese Writer

INDEX

Welcome to my world. My English name is LeAnne.

I come from JiangXi Province in China and am now based in GuangDong Province.

I would like to introduce you to a modern view of China from my unique and personal point of view.

Olympic Games & China

The Athens Olympic Games (2004) have finished.

In the gold medal table, China has pocketed 32 golds, just behind the United States who got 35.

Seeing the exploits we’ve achieved, China is an undisputable, sporting superpower.

In 1893, the first modern Olympic games were held in Greece.

There were only a few countries that joined in, few athletes taking part and only a few sports to compete in.

At the time many people didn’t even know what they were and why they were being held.

In the following decades, the Olympic Games were cancelled on some occasions such as during World War II.

But now, not only are more and more athletes joining the meeting, but people the world over can watch it being broadcast live on TV.

It’s surprising that those Olympic Games 2004 have seen such good results. Athletes are truly aiming to reach higher and to be faster and stronger.

To hold the Olympic games is a Chinese dream. Yes, many countries hope to have the right to hold the Olympic games.

For China, the Olympic games are not only meant to benefit the country, they offer a chance to right some wrongs.

Many years ago, the Chinese people were collectively considered as “the sick man of east Asia.”

In order to expunge this bad name, in order to let others realize that the Chinese are great, the games have to be shown as a total success, China is a stable strong and prosperous country.

All the people lead a hard life to build up the country. And now, you can see what we’ve achieved.

Just like the Olympic games, it’s been a long way for China to arrive at its aim higher, faster and stronger.

So why must China host the Olympic games?

First of all, the Olympic Games stand for peace, China has done many things for world peace.

From the name of the country of China, Zhong means candid, Gong He means all the members of the nation living together peacefully.

If China can host the Olympics, it means China can do many more positive things for the world.

Secondly, in the last few years, China has made great progress in many fields, such as politics, education, science, economics and so on.

So, China has the capability to host the Olympic Games.

If we do so, it will give a great boost to the Chinese economy.

We can then use the money to further develop education, science and other fields.

So that China can make more contributions to the world, especially to developing countries.

Thirdly, China has a history of over 5000 years.

It contains many miracles.

Hosting the Olympic Games will make foreigners know more about China.

They will have a good chance to learn about Chinese culture, Chinese people and their customs; they can visit the many scenic spots throughout the country.

Chinese people also can learn from foreigners, so that everyone can communicate successfully at the Olympic games.

We hope all the people can be healthy and interested in sports.

Now, China has the right to host the Olympic games in Beijing, what can you see?

People, no matter how young or old, are doing excises everywhere, studying English, planting trees and so on.

Why are they doing this?

Because they hope they can help foreigners in 2008; they also want the city and the country to be more beautiful.

China has got a great overall result in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, we believe that we’ll do better in 2008.

What can we do now is just wait for the Olympic Games to arrive and pray for the competing athletes.

2008 belongs to China; Beijing’s Olympic games will win great success.

Friends, welcome to China, welcome to Beijing!
