by Eileen O'Brien His early advanced musical ability lead to his father Zhang Chengfeng (the headmaster of Aixin Training school) training him from the age of four. After a succession of noted tutors he is now guided by his current mentor William Chen. His repertoire includes eighteen Mozart concertos, and concertos by Chopin and Beetoven which is simply astounding for a boy of his age. Niu Niu’s first public performance was in Xiamen in August 2003.
He gave a bow to the audience before sitting at the grand piano. And then he began to play.
I felt privileged to be listening to a legend unfold before my very ears. The finale saw Niu Niu duet with the Shostakovich Chamber Players (a mini orchestra) lead by Ania Safonova and Andrew Crowley on solo trumpet.
Long may his musical career flourish!
